SINULOG is a yearly festival in Cebu City, Philippines held every third Sunday of January in honor of the Holy Child Jesus, better known by Cebuanos as Señor Sto. Niño. It is a nine-day long celebration with various activities such as novena masses, exhibits, cultural shows, fluvial parade, pageants, street dancing and parties, fireworks displays and a whole lot more. People not only in Cebu and in the Philippines, but also tourists all around the globe gather to experience this joyous, fun, loud, color-filled and one of the grandest events in the country.  - sinulog festival 2012

  This year 2012, the city is expecting an estimate of 10 million spectators including the locals, tourists and balik-bayans. I am sure it will be more crowded than the previous Sinulog festivals. For those who are planning to witness, experience and join the city's street dance party this Sunday, January 15, 2011, here are few important tips and reminders:

     * Be prepared for a whole-day walk around the city. Since streets from Ayala Center-Cebu, Hipodromo, Fuente Osmeña, N. Bacalso, New Imus Road, P. del Rosario, Jones will be closed for the Sinulog Grand Dance Parade, I don't think bringing your cars will be a great idea.

    * Wear comfortable and cool clothes, shorts and t-shirt or sleeveless shirts paired with good for long-walk-shoes or slippers will be great for this event. You do not have to worry about your water if you get thirsty or hungry, there will be a lot of vendors stationed along the streets.

    * Be prepared for the weather. May it be sunny or rainy, don't forget to put on your sunblock, bring your sunglasses, umbrella, fans and hats.

    * Beware of "pickpocketers". Bring just enough money. Be extra cautious and careful especially when the crowd gets tough and too pushy. You will never know who will touch your side or back pockets and bags. The next time you'll know, your wallet and/or your cellphone/s are gone.

    * If you plan on meeting your friends somewhere in the city, make sure you have well planned and agreed on the location ahead of time. Telecom networks will be very busy that time and will be a pain in the head if you keep on waiting for the SMS to be sent or to arrive. You will also have hard time making calls.

    * Food stalls are everywhere but be careful on what to eat. You don't want yourself to end up in a public toilet and not enjoy the beauty of the colorful "mardi gras".
